Well on this question we can't give answer that everyone will agree. Some people more like to defend and some people more like to destroy. For me personaly man is better because you need to use your brain to defend city and I personaly more like to be in the act of defender.
When you play as a mlnster your main mission is to destroy everything and you just kick buildings and attack them without plan, but when you play as a man it is more complicated. You need to plan where the monster will go, where will you put your army so he will not destroy it and you need to be carefull and not die.

I recomend to you playing with both characters because every have his positive and negative sides. This game is extremely fun and you need try play as both sides.
